New! Holy Family DECA Chapter Launching

New! Holy Family DECA Chapter Launching

Holy Family Catholic High School is excited to join the global network of DECA chapters. This program is an exceptional opportunity for students to learn and excel in leadership and real-world experiences in a variety of industries.

1.     What is DECA?

DECA is a nationwide (and global) program that allows high school students to experience different professional tracks, emerge as leaders, and gain valuable experience in preparation for college and careers. DECA is in high schools in all 50 states and nine countries, with over 225,000 high school students who participate. Holy Family DECA members will experience educational programs and beable to apply their research and learning to projects and if they choose competitions as well.

2.     Why are we creating a DECA chapter?

As a national organization, DECA has specific requirements for schools to become members. It took a few years for Holy Family to build our business and marketing curriculum to meet those requirements in courses and student participation. Our business and marketing curriculum prepares Holy Family students for their post-secondary education with college-level content and real-world scenarios. We are excited to add this next phase of growth into Holy Family’s student activities options.

3.     Why should I get involved?

Whether you are planning to major in business, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, management, or something different, DECA prepares emerging leaders. There are unique divisions with programs and opportunities for students to explore different interests and focuses. DECA programs include more than 60 competitive events: local, regional, and national. DECA is a well-recognized activity by colleges and universities nationwide.

· 92% of DECA members report that DECA experiences empowered them to become effective leaders.

· 91%of DECA members report that DECA experiences connected school to the real world for them.

· 82% of DECA members recognized the benefit and responsibility of community service.

4. How can I still be involved if I play another sport?

Yes! We are proud that more than 90% of Holy Family students participate in an after-school activity. Once the Holy Family DECA group is formed, we will create a schedule that will complement our school day and after-school activities. DECA is open to all grades 9 – 12.

5.     When are regionals/nationals?

These events occur during the second semester. Our first will be next year.

6.     Is there anything you need from our community for DECA to be successful? Get involved!

Students: if you are interested, come to the first informational meeting on Monday, March 18. The first half of One Lunch. Room A102.

Parents (or community members): we have two opportunities.

·       First, we are looking for an experienced DECA advisor or previous participant to join in advising HF DECA. Your focus will be on helping our students in preparation for the competitions.

·       Second, we will be looking for volunteer mentors and speakers to enhance our DECA program.

·       Anyone interested in either of the above can contact Mr. Richter @ richterr@healynet.net.
